3. Cain: First baby to be born on the earth and later murdered his younger brother Abel

4. Abel: Adam and Eve’s second son, killed by his brother Cain

5. Noah: Constructed a ship at God’s command and survived the great Flood along with his wife, three sons, and their three wives

6. Abraham: Father of the Hebrew nation and the ultimate role model for faith

7. Lot: Nephew of Abraham who lived in Sodom

8. Ishmael: Abraham’s first son

9. Sarah: Abraham’s wife and Isaac’s mother

10. Isaac: Abraham’s promised son and father of Jacob

18. Miriam: The elder sister of Moses who helped lead the Israelites through the wilderness

19. Aaron: The older brother of Moses and Israel’s first high priest

20. Balaam: A false prophet who attempted to curse Israel and prevent them from entering the Promised Land

21. Rahab: The former harlot who saved the lives of two Israelite spies in Jericho and later was included in the genealogy of Jesus Christ

22. Joshua: Moses’ successor who led Israel into the Promised Land

23. Deborah: Israelite prophetess and judge who helped Barak to defeat the Canaanites

24. Gideon: Israel’s sixth military leader during the days of the Judges who defeated a vastly superior enemy army with just 300 chosen men

25. Samson: Israel’s thirteenth military leader during the time of Judges. The strongest man who ever lived.

26. Ruth: Naomi’s daughter-in-law, Boaz’s wife, and King David’s great-grandmother

27. Hannah: The godly woman who cried out to God to give her a child

28. Eli: Israel’s high priest who helped raise Samuel in the Tabernacle and died in great sorrow upon hearing that the Ark of the Covenant had been captured by the Philistines

29. Samuel: A prophet who was raised as a Nazarite in the Tabernacle and later anointed Saul and David as kings over Israel

34. Abner: Fine general who fought most of his life for a bad king (Saul)

35. Nathan: Prophet to King David who told the truth of God’s word, no matter how unpleasant

36. Bathsheba: The wife of King David and mother of Solomon

37. Absalom: Handsome royal prince who tried to take the throne away from his father, David

38. Solomon: King David’s son and the wisest man who ever lived. He was the author of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon

39. Abiathar: Outlaw priest who remained loyal to David during hard times and exile

40. Jeroboam: First king of the northern kingdom of Israel. Left the house of David and fostered idolatry in his kingdom of Israel

41. Elijah: A fearless and rugged Israelite prophet who defeated his enemies on Mt. Carmel and was later called up into heaven without dying

42. Ahab: Inherited a divided kingdom headed for a free-fall. Practiced idolatry and was a traitor to God

43. Elisha: Elijah’s successor who parted the Jordan River, raised the Shunammite’s son from the dead, and healed Namaan of his leprosy

44. Jezebel: Queen of Israel who practiced idolatry and was determined to kill the prophet Elijah

45. Josiah: The sixteenth king of Judah who used the discovery of the only remaining copy of the Law of Moses to lead his people in a great revival

46. Zedekiah: King known for his poor leadership and his oath of loyalty to Babylon

47. Joab: Commander of David’s army who wanted to win at all cost

48. Abishai: Brother to Joab and Asahel , military officer under David who was restrained from killing Saul

49. Asahel: Brother to Joab and Abishai and commander in David’s army

50. Rehoboam: First ruler of the southern kingdom of Judah. Refused to alleviate the burden of Solomon’s taxation system

51. Athaliah: Queen of Judah and sole ruler for five years. Put to death by revolutionary rebels

52. Hezekiah: King who strengthened Judah politically, expanded its borders, and had the people tithe their crops

53. Ezra: Priest who depended on God. Strongly opposed inter-marriages with idolatrous neighbors

54. Artaxerxes: king of the Persian Empire. Allowed Ezra to return to Jerusalem

55. Nehemiah: Led the final of three return trips from Persia to Jerusalem after the Babylonian captivity. He rebuilt the walls around the city

56. Esther: The Jewish Persian Queen who saved her people from destruction

57. Mordecai: Queen Esther’s cousin who helped her save the Jewish people from slaughter. He later became prime minister of Persia

58. Job: God permitted this wealthy, righteous believer to be tormented by Satan to demonstrate God’s presence and authority even in the midst of suffering
